STEPHEN HAWKING
"My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all."
Boslough, John. Stephen Hawking's Universe. New York: Avon Books, 1985, p.77.
NICOLE KUEPPER
"It's often funny how in research, it is those little mistakes that you make, and you think, oh, hang on. That was very exciting."
Kuepper, Nicole. "New Solar Cell Easy As Pizza To Make." National Pulic Radio. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=95394225.
CHARLES DARWIN
"There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved."
Darwin, Charles. The Origin of Species. USA: Forgotten Books, 1859, p.106.
ELECTROLIQUID AGGREGATION
(Kuepper & Hawking)
My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, which could be one of those little mistakes that you make, and you'd think, "Oh, hang on. That was very exciting."

The quote implies that new theories and understandings often come about due to chance, and therefore the laboratory and meeting spaces are not confined. They are open and dynamic, allowing changes in the environment.
Stephen Hawking's laboratory is particularly open as he generally ponders on universal theorems, therefore providing him a large view of the extensive space around him.
The meeting space is not necessarily a defined area, as its openness represents that of the universe, as it is ubiquitous and extremely difficult to define/understand.Kuepper's laboratory provides both sheltered space and also space where sun is able to enter, which both assist in her work with photovoltaic solar cells. She also believes in chance as a way of discovery, and thus is provided with plenty of space to move.
